You know that college visits are important and you’ve made time to go… but where do you start and what should you be looking for?
Create a list of colleges by carefully considering what you are looking for in a college. • Do you wish to attend a large, medium or small-sized college or university? • Close to home or far away? • Public or private? • Two-year or four-year? • How important is cost? • How important are clubs, activities, and sports? • Academic specialties? CollegeChoice Consulting partners with students to explore more than twenty five deciding factors to help narrow your choices to colleges that are the best fit for you.
Next, conduct online research to learn more about each school, and do virtual college visits from the comfort of your own home. Attending a local college fair is another way you can narrow your list to your top choices.
Now it’s time to get out your calendar! Consider when a student can miss a day of school and a parent can take a day off of work, in coordination with when the college is offering information sessions and guided tours. You’ll get your best experience if your campus visit takes place when college students are there, so try to avoid break weeks. You will need to schedule to attend guided tours, which can book up over high school break weeks - so be planful and look into your dates far ahead.
Plan to spend time on campus after the Admissions Office informational session and guided tour. Walk the campus to visit strategic areas and activities that will help you gain a feel for what life on campus will feel like for you, personally. CollegeChoice Consulting works with students to uncover the specific areas, buildings, and activities that you need to visit.
