Regent University - Offering a Christian Education to Change the World

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

When I visited Regent University last month, they were already decked out and ready for the holiday season. I guess it’s not surprising, since as a private Christian university their most important holiday may very well be celebrating the birth of Christ at Christmas! The beautiful 70-acre campus in Virginia Beach, VA serves approximately 13,000 students both on campus and online.

Founded in 1978, Regent is one of approximately 900 religiously affiliated colleges and universities in the U.S. and they have a mission to prepare students to excel in both mind and spirit, from a Christian perspective. They offer degrees in over 150 areas of study including business, communication and the arts, cybersecurity and technology, divinity, education, government, law, leadership, nursing and healthcare, psychology, and more.

For students who are looking to gain the knowledge, character, and skills to make a difference in the world, Regent University is considered an affordable Christian university option. The average on-campus annual tuition is less than $20,000 and they offer both need-based and merit-based aid. High school students with strong academic achievement will want to look into their academic merit scholarships, honors college scholarships, $10,000 Freedom Scholarship, $4,000 Homeschool Scholarship, and $4,000 Private School Scholarships, as well as possible church-match grants and legacy awards.

In addition to the nearby beaches and the activities in the Norfolk area, the university offers over 60 student organizations and 11 athletic teams for campus leadership and experience opportunities. They are also considered military/veteran friendly and in October they launched a new 25% tuition discount for first responders seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree. Let me also mention their advantageous approach to transfer credits, as 80% of students bring transfer credits to Regents University and up to 90 credits can be transferred in.

There is a lot to consider when selecting a college and learning about unique approaches (like getting a Christian education) can be very helpful.
