Vermont State University (VSU) serves over 4,000 undergraduate students across five residential campuses and other satellite learning sites, with a system designed to meet students "where they are and where they want to be."
One centralized VSU website allows students to search the 100+ academic program offerings to find those most suited to their needs. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1, VSU students often find more personalized attention and mentorship from professors, and many internship opportunities with local businesses and organizations, providing them with practical experience and networking opportunities.
One unique feature that I want to point out is the VSU Early College Program which gives high schoolers an opportunity to take a full schedule of college courses while simultaneously completing their high school education. It's a fantastic way for select students to earn college credits, explore potential majors, and experience the college environment earlier than usual. These college credits can count toward their future degrees, saving time and money in their higher education journey.
Each of the small VSU campuses has its own unique ambiance, community, and focus areas. For example, Castleton (which I visited) has a more traditional college setting with a wide variety of programs, including nursing and education. The Johnson campus is known for its vibrant arts and technology programs, and its emphasis on creativity and innovation. The Lyndon campus has a strong program in atmospheric sciences, an award-winning television station, and hosts the Vermont Animation Festival. At Randolph, many students study engineering, construction, and business fields. The Williston campus is located just outside Burlington, giving students access to many local amenities and opportunities in areas like IT, healthcare, aviation, and business.
There are so many colleges to choose from! Every student has their own unique needs and interests and Confident College Planning guides families along the college selection journey.
